Lilo Kallai
“Curt came home from a long day’s work in project management for a construction company about 17 years ago and he made an announcement to his wife, Lilo. He said,” I’m so sick of this, I’m going to open a bookstore” Lilo just laughed because, as she explains, “He doesn’t read books!” So, selling books may not have been the best option for Curt, but we still wanted to open our own business. We settled on a flower shop because I had the background and experience in this field when I was a single mother raising a family of four kids in the mid-1990s. Back then I Had taken floral courses and opened a home-based business doing floral work to support my family. I am still always learning and keeping up with all the current trends. It is one of the things I love about my chosen profession. As for Curt? “It’s a natural progression to come out of construction and into flowers, right?” He jokes. What knowledge Curt was missing on the flower end he excelled in the bookkeeping, data entry and website management end. It took a team to make this business happen. Both Curt and I are now the owners of Fresh n Fabulous Flowers and Gifts, which we first opened in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada in 2008. The shop has since earned the reputation for our products, creativity, and customer service. Our goal was to create floral art. We are known for higher-quality flowers that have longevity. That’s a part of our business that makes it special. We buy directly from the growers – that’s our NO. 1. Our arrangements are not what you would see in a grocery store. They are made in a stylish, creative way and we use a variety of unique flowers and textures in our arrangements. Always put together in an artful way to express the sentiments our clients want to portray, wither it is a wedding, birthday, anniversary, or a celebration of life. These are some of the most important moments in our lives to acknowledge. In 2023 our lease was not renewed at our existing location in Qualicum Beach. After searching around and not finding anything that would really suit our needs we made the decision to move to our property in Bowser and do our love for creating in our studio (it really is only a 15 minute drive from Qualicum, so not that far), thus creating a more intimate floral experience for our customers. We are still delivering and providing our clients with the freshest of local flowers and unique creative designs. 80% of our flowers are mostly British Colombia, Canadian grown and some of them right here on Vancouver Island. Here at Fresh N Fabulous flowers, we are also working hard at being and using sustainable products. Composting and recycling are an integral part of our business.About Fresh N Fabulous Flowers and Gifts
